There are many diet programs out there that promise quick and easy fat loss, but have any been proven to work with the fat staying off. Most diets take a few months to show real signs of success. The approach to any diet is the secret to success but everyone’s circumstances are different so where do you start.

Next up on the list of foods that you want to get out of your diet plan are any products that are built to be ‘fat free’. These often state that they are fat free on the label and proud of it.

But ask yourself, if the fat is removed, what is added? Something had to be added otherwise these just wouldn’t taste good.

The answer to that is sugar. Sugar has often been added to these foods and is what is causing them to still taste appealing.

And, if you are trying to lose body fat, sugar is just as bad — if not worse — than fat is.


Protein Bars

Finally, the last of the foods that you need to be careful about including in your diet plan are protein bars. These may seem like a great option since they do contain protein and you’re probably trying to get more protein into your day.

But once again, you need to check that sugar content. Most protein bars are upwards of 15 grams of sugar or more per bar. Some measure in as high as 30 or even 40 grams of sugar depending on the calorie content.

In actuality, these aren’t much more than a glorified chocolate bar. While you can buy a few bars that do keep the sugar content very low (five grams or less per bar), you do need to search for those. Be careful about buying these bars.

5oils copyToday I want to talk about a very important but confusing topic that has a much bigger impact on your thyroid than you realize. There is a lot of confusing and false information that continues to circulate across the globe regarding what fats and oils are truly healthy. Unfortunately, you and millions of other people have been led to believe that all of these so called “heart healthy” oils in your diet are preventing future health problems while the reality is that they are not only heart UN-healthy but are linked directly to hypothyroidism.

The entire “heart healthy” marketing movement was driven by the fact that polyunsaturated fats (PUFAs) could lower cholesterol. If all of these polyunsaturated fats were so “heart healthy” then why has heart disease continued to rise in spite of our drastic increase in the use of these oils?

According to statistics from the FDA, our use of “heart healthy” polyunsaturated oils has increased by more than 330% since 1970 with the average person today consuming 51.9 lbs. per year as opposed to only 15.4 lbs. per year in 1970.

If over the course of 40 years these “heart healthy” oils have not made any bit of impact in heart health then why do we continue to push them as if another 40 years might provide some different results?

That’s not wishful thinking… That’s pure insanity.

That also doesn’t paint a good picture for polyunsaturated fats but believe it or not, polyunsaturated fats can paint a good picture, so to speak…

PUFAs – Great for Paint, Bad for Hypothyroidism

varnishPolyunsaturated fats were once used almost exclusively for paint varnish. You see, polyunsaturated fats work great for paints because they oxidize and dry very easily allowing paint to be liquid and then dry when applied to a wall.

But somewhere between the lines of ignorance and “insanity”, as Albert Einstein would have said, we’ve completely ignored the obvious dangers of these fats in favor of unscientific research and false promises.

It is very well known that polyunsaturated fats oxidize rapidly when exposed to oxygen and heat, and this oxidation creates free radicals, oxidative damage, and cell death. Killing your own cells definitely doesn’t improve your health in case you were wondering.

Regardless of how these oils are processed and manufactured, oxygen is abundant in the human body which is heated to roughly 98.6 °F. Needless to say, your body is a perfect environment for the oxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids.

But that’s only part of the problem…

Polyunsaturated fats also promote and cause hypothyroidism on multiple levels.

  1. Polyunsaturated fats block the thyroid gland from secreting thyroid hormone.
  2. Polyunsaturated fats block the transport of thyroid hormone to your cells within your bloodstream.
  3. Polyunsaturated fats block your cells from properly utilizing the thyroid hormone that is available.

When Will the Insanity End?

How much longer do they have to keep repeatedly pushing and promoting the use of these oils before we realize that ignoring the science that is right in front of our eyes is true insanity?

By continuing to follow the health advice of the masses, how can you logically expect different results? How can you expect anything but more hypothyroidism, heart disease, and cancer?

Sometimes the only way to achieve opposite results is to take opposite action.

What are the Symptoms of Hypothyroidism

Goiter (GOI-tur) is basically an abnormal enlargement of your thyroid gland. Your thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland located at the base of your neck just below your Adam’s apple. Although goiters are usually painless, a large goiter can cause a cough and make it difficult for you to swallow or breathe.

The most common cause of goiter worldwide is a lack of iodine in the diet. In the United States, where the use of iodized salt is common, a goiter is more often due to the over- or underproduction of thyroid hormones or to nodules that develop in the gland itself.


Advanced Hypothyroidism (Myxedema)

This is not s common but can become life threatening if not treated quickly. The mains symptoms in these cases re low blood pressure, reduced breathing, a drop in body temperature. This condition can be fatal if not treated.

There are anti-thyroid medications on the market that are used to treat this condition. Hypothyroidism  is often treated with iodine to reduce or normalise the thyroid function. Thyroid surgery is also an option which involves removing the large portion of the thyroid gland which aims to halt the hormone production. You would have to take a thyroid hormone for life.

The general treatment of hypothyroidism usually involves daily use of the synthetic thyroid hormone levothyroxine,Levothroid, Synthroid and others). This oral medication helps to restore adequate hormone levels and reverses the signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism.

It takes about 10 – 15 days before you notice the difference which could be less fatigue and increased energy. These types of medication will also gradually reduce your cholesterol levels which have been elevated by this condition. You will normally notice some weight loss as well.
